Mater Pathology is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Scientific Assistant to join our team on a casual basis. As a Scientific Assistant, you will play a critical role in processing clinical specimens and assisting medical and scientific staff in the preparation of specimens for examination.
Key Responsibilities- Accurately identify and process clinical specimens, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to quality control procedures.
- Enter data accurately and efficiently into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results.
- Adhere to departmental quality system procedures and occupational health and safety policies to maintain laboratory standards and ensure personal and others' health and safety.
- Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a professional appearance and positive interactions with patients, medical staff, and other stakeholders.
- Perform test sendaway tasks, ensuring accurate and appropriate packaging of specimens for referral laboratories.
- Practice in accordance with best practice, legal, ethical, and professional standards.
- Manage stock and equipment, ensuring adequate supplies and minimizing waste.
- Ensure specimens are stored and handled in accordance with established standards.
- Coordinate the movement of samples between Central Specimen Reception and laboratories to prevent spoilage.
- Perform administrative and maintenance tasks as required for the laboratory location.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Sound knowledge of Central Specimen Reception duties and experience in a pathology laboratory.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to promoting the Mater values.
