Position Overview

This position involves collaborating with our established team to report on political developments from Canberra. It is a full-time, permanent role based at News Corp's office in Parliament House.

Core Responsibilities

  • Generate and propose original news stories and concepts
  • Deliver timely political news reports
  • Maintain an accurate and current news calendar
  • Submit compelling articles within strict deadlines
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with key political figures
  • Coordinate with the Chief of Staff (Politics) on daily news coverage, planning, and significant events
  • React to breaking news incidents outside of scheduled hours as necessary

Candidate Profile

  • A minimum of two years of experience in journalism or newsroom settings, ideally in political reporting
  • Ability to discern key issues and present them engagingly to readers
  • Prior experience in covering breaking news
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in multitasking and adhering to tight deadlines
  • A collaborative team player with strong communication abilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Adept at simplifying complex subjects for a diverse audience
  • Willingness to adapt to varying work hours
