About the Role

Darebin City Council is seeking a skilled Urban Planning Specialist to support the delivery of high-quality land use and development in a progressive and customer-first organisation.

In this role, you will work across a diverse range of planning projects, ranging from unit developments, heritage proposals, industrial and commercial developments, and applications abutting our creek environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide quality and professional advice to customers on land use and development matters.
  • Prepare reports and make recommendations on planning applications, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Represent Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, advocating for the interests of the community.
  • Assist in the review and monitoring of planning policies and procedures, ensuring they remain relevant and effective.
  • Undertake other duties as directed within the skills and abilities of a position at this level.
Requirements
  • Well-developed understanding of the Victorian urban planning system and related acts.
  • Ability to research and analyse planning-related issues, identifying solutions that balance community needs with development requirements.
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities, and prepare and implement work plans to achieve desired results within the available resources and time.
  • Well-developed customer service principles, with a commitment to providing excellent service to the community.
