Lead a Team of Experts in Emerging Power Systems

The Manager - Future System Studies is a key role within the organization, leading a team of up to ten individuals responsible for technical voices on emerging power system phenomena.

This position plays a critical part in helping the National Electricity Market (NEM) stay ahead of emerging technical challenges. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a high-performing team, managing external consultants when required, and contributing to enterprise leadership as a member of the management team.
  • Developing and implementing departmental, divisional, and team initiatives in line with overall strategies.
  • Driving future power system study elements of the Engineering Roadmap and Transition Plan for System Security.
  • Maintaining and developing power system study capability, tools, models, and future state cases for technical investigations.
  • Specifying technical requirements and capability from emerging technologies, including grid forming inverters.
  • Delivering projects to assist project proponents in evaluating service contributions of their assets.
  • Preparing for future system transition points through planning studies with AEMO's System Security Planning team and Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs).
  • Providing engineering expertise and advisory services to support reform development and implementation.

Experience in building and managing teams in complex technical environments is essential. Strong analytical skills, experience driving innovation and change, and delivering outcomes under resistance are also required.

A deep understanding of the NER, NEM, and Rule Change framework is necessary. Experience managing strategic changes, diverse stakeholders, and matrix resources is highly valued.

Requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as engineering.
  • Deep expertise in operating and planning large power systems and engineering challenges.
Location Flexibility

Brisbane City, with flexibility to be based in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart, or Perth.
