Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide range of heavy mining machinery and equipment.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on mining equipment such as excavators, loaders, drills, trucks, and crushers.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to ensure optimal performance of machinery.
  • Installation and Assembly: Assemble and install new equipment components, ensuring proper fit and function according to technical specifications.
  • Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to identify worn or defective parts and recommend repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Technical Interpretation: Interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and schematics to perform repairs and modifications on equipment.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the maintenance and operations teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment efficiency.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work, repairs, and parts used.
  • Scheduling: Assist in the planning and scheduling of maintenance activities to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate tools and equipment such as forklifts, EPWs, welding machines, and hand tools as required.
Requirements:
  • Heavy Duty Mechanic Experience: Proven experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic within the Heavy mining equipment industry.
  • Trade Certification: Trade certification as a Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, or equivalent qualification.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems used in mining equipment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Independent Work: Ability to work unsupervised in remote or field locations as required.
  • Fabrication Skills: Have basic skills in welding and fabrication.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. They must also have a trade certification as a Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, or equivalent qualification and strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems used in mining equipment.
