About This Role

A dynamic consulting firm is seeking a Regulatory Strategy Specialist to support project work with regulated utilities, government bodies, and infrastructure organisations.

This role focuses on regulatory strategy, bringing proposals together by working with businesses to identify requirements and ensuring all material meets the required standard. The emphasis is on shaping and delivering effective proposals, while providing strategic advice, analytical modelling, and evidence-based insights at the intersection of policy, regulation, business strategy, and consumer outcomes.

The successful candidate will work on regulatory submissions, policy reviews, and investment justifications, ideally on transmission networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop economic models and financial forecasts to support submissions, including capital expenditure proposals and cost-of-service frameworks
  • Prepare regulatory proposals, board papers, and business cases, communicating complex concepts clearly
  • Navigate regulatory frameworks and ensure compliance with information and reporting requirements
  • Conduct research, identifying emerging trends and risks across sectors
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Co-author thought leadership content on regulatory developments
  • Collaborate in a small team, contributing to capability building and knowledge sharing
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree-qualified economist with economics, finance, or related discipline
  • Experience in regulatory economics, ideally in utility networks or government-regulated sectors
  • Ability to lead regulatory strategy - working with businesses to identify requirements, shaping proposals, and ensuring material meets the standard
  • Exceptional analytical thinking and ability to identify implications
  • Excellent communication skills, presenting complex information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proactive and collaborative, contributing in small-team environments
