The Kangan Institute is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Indigenous Student Counsellor to join our team. As a key member of our student support services, you will play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing and academic success of Indigenous students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a range of counselling, welfare, and advisory services to Indigenous students and staff, including referrals to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
- Assess and manage emerging, acute, and complex student mental health issues, including student risk and suicide ideation or attempted suicide, and provide evidence-based assessment and short-term psychological interventions.
- Facilitate psychosocial education programs on mental health awareness, wellbeing, and support options.
- Undertake complex support and management for children and young people in line with the Child Safety Standards.
- Connection to Indigenous community and elders.
- Deep understanding of societal issues facing Indigenous students.
- Tertiary qualification and experience in counselling, social work, psychology, or community services, with eligibility for membership in relevant regulatory bodies.
- Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), Australian Counselling Association (ACA), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Australian Psychological Society (APS), or Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA).
- Or, lesser formal qualification with extensive experience/management expertise or a combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
