About the Role

Rio Tinto is a global leader in mining and materials, operating in 35 countries. We produce essential resources for the energy transition and sustainable development.

We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Advisor to provide technical expertise on tailings and geotechnical risks in the Australia Pacific region. This role involves collaborating with multiple assets to identify, assess, and mitigate potential hazards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geotechnical engineering or related fields, with at least 15 years of experience. They must be able to build robust relationships with stakeholders, drive consensus, and lead projects effectively.

In this role, you will work closely with our team to develop strategies for closing geotechnical assets, manage risks associated with tailings facilities, and contribute to the development of assurance plans.

As a key member of our Major Hazards Team, you will play a critical part in ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto's standards and guidelines. Your expertise will help us achieve our goal of safely and responsibly closing our assets.

What You'll Bring
  • Tertiary qualifications in geotechnical engineering or a related field
  • At least 15 years of experience working in geotechnical engineering or tailings
  • Strong ability to build relationships, communicate complex ideas, and lead teams effectively
  • Demonstrated experience in managing geotechnical risks, closure of assets, and project management
