Petroleum Assessments Manager

Join the Department of Environment, Parks and Water as a key member of the Environmental Regulation Division. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager Petroleum Assessments to lead a team and ensure the timely delivery of advice and recommendations to decision-makers on Environment Management Plans (EMPs) under the Petroleum (Environment) Regulations 2016.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Leading a team to administer the Territory's environmental legislation for onshore petroleum in line with the Division's best practice regulatory principles.
- Managing, developing, and allocating staff and resources to deliver high-level advice and recommendations to relevant decision-makers in relation to onshore petroleum projects in the Northern Territory.
- Ensuring EMPs are processed efficiently and with a focus on the highest environmental risks and impacts.
- Preparing, reviewing, and coordinating EMPs, briefings, reports, and other material on environmental matters within statutory timeframes.
- Working constructively and cooperatively with the Division's leadership team and other teams in the Division in line with the Division's values to deliver the priorities of the Division.
- Maintaining a constructive relationship with the regulatory community in line with the Division's best practice regulatory principles.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A degree relevant to one or more of the following disciplines: chemical, physical, geological, hydrological, environmental, and biological sciences, engineering, law, forensic science, or auditing or equivalent.
- Demonstrated understanding of environmental impact assessment within the context of existing legislation and policies.
- Experience in managing individual and team performance by effective allocation of resources, feedback, and mentoring/developing staff.
- Highly developed and accurate oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to apply sound judgment and provide strategic advice on complex and contentious issues.
- Proven significant experience in one or more of the following: environmental assessment, environmental management, environmental auditing, environmental compliance and enforcement, regulatory investigations, or development of regulatory instruments or guidance material.
- A clear commitment to engage with and adopt the Division's values: alignment, caring, courage, and taking responsibility.
- An understanding of Work Health and Safety matters or the ability to acquire knowledge within a short period.
