Opportunity Overview

A PhD scholarship is available at Monash University for the development of a national alcohol risk index. The aim is to prevent future alcohol-related harms by identifying locations and sociodemographic groups most at risk.

About the Project

Alcohol consumption is a major avoidable risk factor for disease and injury in Australia, contributing significantly to the burden of disease. This project seeks to address this issue by developing and validating tools that policy makers and governments can use to reduce alcohol harms.

Research Team

The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary cohort of researchers and students based at Turning Point, a leading national addiction treatment, training and research centre. The principal supervisors are Dr Rowan Ogeil and Dr Bosco Rowland, both experienced researchers in the field of addiction and mental health.

Scholarship Details

The scholarship provides a tax-free stipend of $35,013 per annum, as per the Monash Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend. This opportunity is available to domestic students only, who must meet the Monash University minimum requirements for admission to a PhD.

Candidates must have a strong academic background and research interests aligned with the project goals. They will need to submit a cover letter, CV, and academic transcript(s) as part of their application.
