Job Overview

In a high-end dining environment, the Wine Service Assistant will work effectively as part of a team providing support to the Sommelier and Head Sommelier with all aspects of wine service.

  • Ensure all areas are properly stocked and set up ready for service at all times.
  • Provide an exceptional wine and beverage service in the restaurant, meeting the highest standards.
  • Have full knowledge of the wine list to assist guests with their choices and make recommendations where necessary.
  • Be aware of all bookings and special guest requirements to deliver personalized service.
  • Assist with wine tasting sessions as required by the team to enhance the overall experience.
  • Resolve any guest queries relating to wine and drink service in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain and clean all wine service equipment to ensure impeccable presentation.
  • Support the Head Sommelier in carrying out wine training for front-of-house team members to promote excellence.
Key Requirements
  • Knowledge of menus, recipes, and beverage offerings is essential for success.
  • A basic understanding of cost control is necessary to manage resources effectively.
  • Awareness of company procedures relating to beverage SOPs is crucial for consistency.
  • Previous experience as a sommelier/waiter in a fine dining restaurant is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • A WSET qualification is considered advantageous but not essential.
