Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Exercise Specialist to collaborate with research personnel and participants in clinical trials focused on dementia risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Compensation: Salary range from $80,753 to $91,815 (HEW Level 5) along with 17% employer superannuation and annual leave loading.
- Employment Type: Part-time fixed-term role at 0.6 FTE for one year, with potential for extension.
- Location: Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde.
Role Details
The successful candidate will be part of a team engaged in a lifestyle-oriented clinical trial aimed at promoting lifestyle modifications to delay or prevent cognitive decline and dementia-related conditions, particularly in individuals identified as high-risk.
Under the guidance of the principal investigator, the primary duties will include:
- Executing the physical activity intervention component of the AU-ARROW study, adhering to the established protocol and collaborating with another exercise physiologist.
- Creating safe and effective exercise regimens while considering the study objectives, participant medical history, and health status.
- Introducing participants to gym equipment and providing proper usage instructions at various gym locations involved in the study.
- Utilizing prepared study materials to conduct presentations for groups of up to 10 participants, promoting physical activity, educating on healthier lifestyles, and offering support.
- Conducting basic physical assessments of participants as necessary.
- Assisting with administrative tasks and data entry related to the research study, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with ethical standards.
- Ensuring all activities align with AU-ARROW policies, protocols, and Australian research guidelines.
- Complying with university research ethics and legislative requirements concerning data management.
- Assisting in the preparation of research findings for dissemination and publication.
- Adhering to relevant EEO and WHS regulations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and adaptable professional, capable of working independently while demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills. A background in clinical trials is advantageous but not mandatory.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Exercise and Sport Science) and accreditation as an Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia.
- Experience in developing exercise plans and implementing evidence-based interventions for older adults.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in collaborating with team members to achieve common goals while respecting diverse perspectives.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Familiarity with ICH-GCP guidelines or willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Willingness to travel to multiple gym locations within the metropolitan area.
- Experience with web-based research platforms and fitness tracking technologies.
- Ability to manage confidential participant information effectively.
