Cloud Engineer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in cloud engineering, automation, and DevOps, with expertise in AWS services and container technologies.


The ideal candidate will be passionate about automation, CI/CD, and bridging development and operations. They will also have a strong eye for cost efficiency and cloud spend optimisation, as well as excellent communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Cloud Infrastructure Engineering: Engineer, automate, and optimise scalable AWS infrastructure for high availability, security, and performance.
  • Automation and CI/CD: Champion Infrastructure-as-Code, using Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation to create repeatable, reliable environments. Own and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for rapid, automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
  • Cloud Cost Optimisation: Lead cloud cost optimisation efforts, ensuring platforms are efficient, right-sized, and delivering maximum value.
  • Expert Guidance: Provide expert guidance to development teams on new services – covering cost, security, back-ups and monitoring considerations.

Requirements:
  • Experience: 3+ years' AWS cloud engineering and automation experience, ideally with AWS certification.
  • Skills: UNIX/Linux administration (RHEL focus), Python/Bash scripting and automation, AWS services (IAM, RDS, EC2, ECS, EFS, SES, SNS, Cognito) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Personality Traits: Passionate about automation, CI/CD, and bridging development and operations; Strong eye for cost efficiency and cloud spend optimisation; Excellent communication skills.
