Habitat Energy is a technology company specializing in physical and financial optimization of energy storage and renewable generation assets globally. Our goal is to maximize returns from these assets, drive investment in renewable energy, and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world.

Job Description
  • An Energy Spot Trader will join our Trading team based in Melbourne. This role will be an integral member of our commercial team, shaping asset optimization and trading efforts in the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM).
Main Responsibilities
  1. Asset Management: Assess risks and opportunities of asset operations by coordinating with internal teams; support relationships with key clients, market operators, and other stakeholders.
  2. Trading Strategies: Develop and refine Habitat trading protocols and operational workflows; provide input into product development roadmaps and service offerings, identifying new market opportunities.
  3. Performance Analysis: Optimize physical and financial trading positions within real-time electricity markets with a focus on maximizing value capture for clients; collaborate with Habitat teams to develop and implement trading strategies while complying with risk limits and trading control procedures.
  4. Monitoring and Reporting: Compare results with similar assets in the market; monitor trading outcomes and client portfolios; analyze the NEM to understand fundamental drivers of market characteristics.
  5. Additional Tasks: Improve algorithms and analyze trading strategies; conduct market analysis, including Habitat's view of price forecasts and other inputs to forecasting models.
Required Skills And Qualifications
  • A degree in business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of physical or financial trading experience in Australian electricity markets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload in time-pressured environments.
