CSIRO's Mineral Resources team is pioneering cutting-edge research and development of technologies for mining, manufacturing, space, and other industries to enhance safety and productivity.

We have a proven track record and are a leading provider of software and hardware solutions to mining professionals, including geologists, geotechnical, and blast engineers, as well as surveyors.

  • We have developed sensing technologies that are now being utilized or trialed in medical, aeronautical, and space industries.

The work is underpinned by many years of experience with both 2D and 3D imaging systems, geophysical sensing, and imaging technologies.

We have successfully patented and commercialized innovative sensor and analytics systems.

About This Opportunity

A rare opportunity has arisen for a passionate and skilled researcher to design and develop advanced algorithms and fused sensor systems for mining and aerospace applications.

This may interest scientists/engineers in fields such as physics, mathematics, computer science, with experience in computer vision.

The position is based in Brisbane, co-located with the 3D Vision Laboratory at QCAT, with domestic relocation support provided.

As part of the Mining Geoscience Team, you will contribute cutting-edge R&D, including algorithm design and sensor fusion system designs, using technologies such as computer vision, lidar, time-of-flight, radar, accelerometers, and other sensing modalities.

Applications will be assessed across two capability levels, and the successful candidate will be appointed at the level commensurate with their skills and experience.

Appointment to this role is subject to the provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.

Key Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., physics, mathematics, computer science)
  • Proven experience in computer vision and/or machine learning
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or C++
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
