Power Systems Engineer Job Description

As a Power Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of power systems solutions for renewable energy applications.

The successful candidate will have expertise in designing and analyzing power electronic systems, including control systems and grid interactions. Strong knowledge of modeling tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, and PowerFactory is required.

This position requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical information to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement power systems solutions for renewable energy applications.
  • Analyze and design power electronic systems, including control systems and grid interactions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project needs.
  • Communicate complex technical information to stakeholders through detailed reports and presentations.
Requirements:
  • Master's or PhD degree in electrical or electric power engineering, or related field of study.
  • Bachelor's in electrical or electric power engineering with 5 years employment experience in related position.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in an engineering field and in MATLAB, PSSE, PSLF, Python, C#, etc.
Desired Skills:
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing models in electromechanical domain like PSS/E, PSLF, PowerFactory, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of grid systems interactions with power plant equipment and controls.
  • Experience with time-domain simulation tools.
  • Experience with Hardware in the loop testing (HIL) of control systems.
  • Experience with programming environments to understand controller code and complex simulation modeling.

This role will require working across different time zones and monitoring, reading and responding to contacts outside normal working hours.
