PhD Researcher in Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science
Monash University is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team in the Centre for Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science (COMBS). The successful candidate will be working on a project focused on probing the limits of optical microcombs for carrying data.
About the Project
Our research aims to develop new technologies to support the increasing demand for data transmission. Optical microcombs are a newly invented source of light that can produce a precise rainbow of laser-like lines, enabling communication bandwidths of many terahertz. This project will involve training in state-of-the-art optical transmission systems and becoming an expert in the physics of optical microcombs, telecommunications systems based on combs, and data processing.
About the Role
The PhD researcher will be part of a large collaboration between Monash University and international partners, including the Danish Technical University. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work with leading academics and industry partners, and will be trained in a range of skills, including data processing, telecommunications, and optical physics.

COMBS is a 7-year, $70M research collaboration that brings together 8 Australian universities and many international partners. The centre is focused on developing new technologies for optical frequency combs, which hold promise for reshaping the realms of precision measurements, high-speed communication, sensing, and astronomical discovery.
