Senior Agricultural Officer Job Summary

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic team as a Senior Agricultural Officer in Queensland.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Regulatory Compliance: Implement on-ground regulatory activities, including farm inspections and permit assessments, to ensure compliance with agricultural standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders, such as agricultural producers, advisors, and industry partners, using tailored communication strategies to promote the voluntary adoption of regulated farm practices.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Collaborate with your team to address complex environmental issues and develop innovative regulatory approaches.
  • Enforcement and Continuous Improvement: Recommend enforcement actions where necessary and drive continuous improvement by seeking innovative solutions to manage environmental risks.
  • Regulatory Effectiveness: Enhance the effectiveness of regulatory activities through ongoing refinement and innovation.
Key Requirements:
  • Communication and Problem-Solving: Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Agricultural Knowledge: Experience in agriculture, environmental science or regulation is helpful but not essential.
  • Environmental Impact: A keen understanding of the environmental impact of the agricultural industry and the ability to quickly learn how to use regulatory tools.
  • Legislative Frameworks: Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and relevant legislative frameworks and their implementation.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Demonstrated proactive collaboration and the ability to work effectively with peers, supervisors, and the wider departmental network.
Location and Travel:

This position is based in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, or Rockhampton and may require travel to other locations from time to time, including overnight stays.
