
Indigenous Community Liaison Specialist

The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive learning environment for Indigenous students. This specialist supports teachers, students, and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower Indigenous students to achieve their full potential.
This specialist acts as a liaison between the school and community, working closely with teachers, students, and families to develop and implement effective educational strategies that promote academic achievement and social development of Indigenous students, particularly those at risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentoring and pastoral care for Indigenous students, particularly those at risk, to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom.
- Collaborating with teachers and families to develop and deliver culturally responsive educational programs.
- Working with the local Indigenous community to inform and shape school policies and programs.
- Conducting home visits to discuss academic progress and social development of students.
- Providing orientation to staff about the Indigenous community and its needs.
Eligibility and Requirements:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before starting the role.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before starting the role.
