Career Development Specialist

The Careers and Pathways Leader is a pivotal position within our secondary school, responsible for guiding students through their career development, educational pathways, and transition into further education or the workforce.
Key Responsibilities- Pathway Planning and Counselling:
Provide one-on-one counselling to Year 12 students in making informed decisions about VTAC applications and future educational and career paths. Conduct group interviews at all year levels to support students in identifying their career interests and Year 13 planning. Support Leading Teachers (Curriculum) with course counselling interviews for Year 9-11 students and provide tertiary guidelines/training to staff for this purpose. - Morrisby Testing:
Manage the Morrisby Aptitude Testing for Year 9 (remote and onsite). Liaison with the DET (My Career Insights) to develop the role out of both testing and interview schedule. Manage and schedule counselling sessions for all Year 9 students. Administer and interpret Morrisby Profiling assessments to help students understand their aptitudes, interests, and career options. Provide information sessions for parents and students to explain the Morrisby testing process and reporting, including interpreting assessment results. - Work Experience Program Management:
Implement the DET Work Experience Policy and follow the associated work experience manual when planning for and conducting work experience arrangements to ensure compliance with legislation. Coordinate and manage the work experience program, including the identification of opportunities, liaising with employers, and ensuring compliance with legal and educational requirements. Support students in securing placements, preparing resumes and cover letters, and preparing for interviews through Education for Life (E4L) classes. Monitor and evaluate the work experience placements and gather feedback from students and employers. - University and Further Education Applications:
Provide guidance and support to students in preparing and submitting applications for universities and other higher education institutions, including both domestic and international options. Assist with the preparation of application documents, personal statements, and portfolios. Facilitate workshops/presentations on university application processes for both students and parents of Year 12. - Vocational Education and Training (VET) Coordination:
Oversee the implementation and administration of the VET program, in accordance with the relevant guidelines. Promote and communicate vocational and applied learning and pathways as of equal standing to academic learning and pathways. Coordinate with external VET providers, clusters and industry partners to offer relevant courses and training opportunities. Enrol students annually in a timely manner to ensure students receive their desired course. Track student progress and outcomes in VET programs and provide support as needed. - Curriculum Development:
Utilise the Career Blueprint to design, implement, and evaluate intentional career development learning for Year 9-12. Collaborate with Leading Teachers (Curriculum) to develop career appropriate lessons to be delivered by teaching staff during E4L lessons. Design and oversee a comprehensive career education program that aligns with current industry trends and educational standards. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the career curriculum and programs. Use feedback from students and staff to make data-driven improvements and ensure the curriculum meets the evolving needs of students and the job market. - Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support students' career and pathway planning. Develop and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, industries, and higher education institutions to create opportunities for students. Organise and facilitate career fairs, guest speaker events, and industry tours. - Administrative and Reporting Duties:
Maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes related to career and pathway planning. Prepare reports and updates for school leadership on the effectiveness of career programs and student engagement. Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensure careers documents are archived for the appropriate time, i.e. WE - 30 years.
