The Australian Government Graduate Program - Economist Stream is a unique opportunity for individuals with a strong interest in economic research and policy development.
This program is designed to provide targeted training and development to progress your skills and knowledge in the field of economics. As an economist graduate, you will be working on various policy issues that impact the community, including advising on important economic and social topics such as taxes, employment, imports and exports, and how interest rates affect our economy.
- Key tasks include conducting research, analysing data, and providing economic policy advice to inform decision-making processes within government departments and agencies.
- You will contribute to a range of government policy issues, including fiscal, monetary, social, industry and environmental policies that address social and welfare issues.
- Macro-economic, industry and cost benefit analysis, economic forecasting and evaluation of government programs are key areas of focus.
- Domestic and international economic issues and Australia's participation in global economic forums are also relevant to this role.
To be successful in the Economist Stream, you should:
- Have a degree in economics or econometrics (or a major or minor in economics).
- Be ready to work on policy issues that impact the community.
- Eager to understand Australian and international economic issues.
If found suitable and selected for the AGGP - Economist Stream, you will undertake a graduate program in a participating government department or agency that will provide real-time experience in economic policy research, modelling and forecasting.
You will benefit from on-the-job learning and competitive salary with excellent superannuation. You will have opportunities to analyse key economic areas and contribute to fiscal, monetary, social, industry and environmental policies that address social and welfare issues.
