Senior Mechanical Supervisor Job Description

This senior mechanical supervisor role is a critical leadership position within our infrastructure project in Sydney. As a senior mechanical supervisor, you will be responsible for providing on-site leadership and supervision to ensure the successful installation, testing, and commissioning of all HVAC activities.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead daily pre-starts, toolbox talks, and end-of-shift debriefs for HVAC teams, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supervise the installation of chilled water systems, ventilation systems, Mechanical LV systems, and BMCS interfaces, including ductwork, pipework, fans, pumps, and associated controls, ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, ITPs, and project specifications.
  • Ensure seamless coordination of access, lifting, penetrations, and interfaces with other trades (fire, hydraulics, electrical) to prevent delays and promote safe working practices.
  • Oversee testing and commissioning activities (pipe pressure testing, air balancing, duct leakage tests, smoke and cause/effect testing), guaranteeing all equipment meets quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years' experience in HVAC construction supervision on large-scale infrastructure or building projects, showcasing your ability to manage complex projects and teams effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including ductwork, chilled water, ventilation, Mechanical LV systems, and BMCS, enabling you to make informed decisions and provide expert guidance.
  • Proven ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate with other trades, demonstrating your capacity to lead and collaborate across different disciplines.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership and compliance with WHS requirements, highlighting your commitment to creating a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Excellent people management and leadership skills, allowing you to inspire and motivate your team to achieve their best work.
  • Professional presentation and ability to represent the project at a high standard when interfacing with stakeholders, showcasing your professionalism and expertise.
  • Able to delegate and take responsibility to ensure that work is completed safely, efficiently, and maximizes project and individuals' effectiveness.
  • Experience working under Permit to Work Systems and adhering to Permit to Work conditions.
  • Able to use tools and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.

Mandatory Requirements:
  • Construction White/Blue Card.
  • Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card.
  • Experience with integrated systems testing and commissioning.
  • Formal leadership/supervision training (e.g., RIIRIS301D, RIICOM301D).
  • Fire Extinguisher Training (PUAWER008B or CPPFES2005A or MSAPMOHS212A)
