Job Title: Craft Development Specialist

The Jewellery Studio is a collaborative environment where makers come together to explore and refine their technical skills. As a Craft Development Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students, staff, and researchers by providing expert guidance and supervision.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervise users of the Jewellery Studio to ensure a safe and effective workshop environment.
  • Demonstrate training programs and induction processes to users.
  • Offer advice on fabrication techniques and provide instruction on materials and technical processes.
  • Develop and implement formal instruction, demonstrations, and inductions to facilitate project completion.
  • Maintain and service machines and equipment according to maintenance registers and WHS documentation.
  • Source and replenish consumables, perform opening/closing procedures, and establish a community of confident makers.
  • Contribute to online content promoting effective equipment usage, software, and hardware.

Additional Responsibilities (Level 6):

  • Utilize Resource Management Systems to ensure equitable access and support the Faculty's teaching and research agenda.
  • Provide advanced technical advice on techniques and processes used across the Making Centre.
  • Liaise with industry suppliers and specialist representatives for materials, hardware, and software acquisitions.
  • Participate in WHS activities organizing work practices that conform to relevant legislation and University health and safety policies.
  • Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to meet their current and future needs.

Requirements:

  • A relevant trade certificate or tertiary degree, or extensive experience in a technical role.
  • Intermediate jewellery and metal smithing experience, including knowledge of machine and equipment upkeep.
  • Ability to maintain a professional working environment under pressure.
  • Productive team relationships and contribution to team goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
