Role OverviewBiosecurity plays a pivotal role in safeguarding our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats.
Invasive species significantly impact the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our quality of life in general. Our Invasive Species program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce their impact in Queensland.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop evidence-based pest risk assessments to prioritize invasive and potentially invasive animal and plant species.
- Document pest risk assessment procedures and create/refine decision-support tools.
- Promote awareness of the process used to select top-priority species for regulatory and operational responses.
- Maintain a library of scientific assessments that support operational delivery and policy development.
- Contribute to the development of surveillance plans, eradication feasibility assessments and species-specific control plans.
- Stay abreast of contemporary methods for managing invasive species.
