The role of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Occupational Health Physician at Monash University is a unique position that combines two crucial functions. The CMO provides expert medical advice to the executive management on matters relating to the health and wellbeing of the university community, working closely with the University Health Service.
The Occupational Health Physician works within the Health, Safety and Wellbeing team, responsible for providing targeted occupational health advice to ensure staff and students can engage in education/work-related activities with minimal risk to health and safety. This role also promotes preventive health strategies and workplace wellbeing.
This position requires a deep understanding of complex workplaces, strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, and the ability to provide strategic advice to senior leadership groups. It is critical that the successful candidate has experience in medical practice or research, post-graduate qualifications in occupational health and/or public health, and Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
About the Role:
- Provide expert medical advice to the University's executive management on health and wellbeing matters.
- Work closely with the University Health Service to respond to public health incidents and emergencies.
- Establish and sustain partnerships with government agencies and related organizations.
- Provide targeted occupational health advice to staff and students.
- Promote preventive health strategies and workplace wellbeing.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery.
- Post-graduate qualifications in occupational health and/or public health.
- Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
- Evidence of experience in medical practice or research.
- Demonstrated initiative, judgement, and ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide strategic advice to senior leadership groups.
