Job Overview

The Leading Teacher is a highly skilled classroom practitioner who undertakes leadership and management roles to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools.

This role involves coordinating staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning through modelling, collaborating and coaching. The Leading Teacher will lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the education program.

Main Responsibilities

  • Implementing strategic plans for whole-school improvement initiatives
  • Developing and delivering professional development programs for teachers
  • Managing teacher performance and development
  • Delivering demonstration lessons
  • Designing assessment and reporting policies and practices
  • Implementing operational procedures related to student welfare and discipline
  • Contributing to the overall leadership and management of the school
  • Developing proposals for consideration by the school council

Requirements

  • Certification as a registered teacher from the Victorian Institute of Teaching
  • Qualifications in teaching and/or experience in the specified curriculum areas
