About the Role

We are seeking a skilled software engineer to lead our Rust engineering efforts. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing well-tested and well-documented software in Rust, advocating for Rust adoption in Canonical and upstream projects, identifying projects and codebases that could be prioritised for Rust adoption, debugging and fixing issues encountered by your users, participating in our engineering process through code and architectural reviews, collaborating with community and colleagues on technical specifications, seeking improvements to engineering and operations practices, and deploying and operating services developed by the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-quality software in Rust
  • Advocate for Rust adoption within the company and industry
  • IDentify opportunities for Rust adoption and drive its implementation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver software solutions
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure high-quality standards are met
  • Debug and fix issues in a timely and effective manner

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A strong academic background in computer science or related field
  • Experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs
  • Strong skills in Rust programming language
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Able to work effectively in a remote environment
