Process Safety Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Process Risk Engineer to join our team at Cleanaway Waste Management.

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening our national Process Safety Framework by providing technical expertise and practical guidance on hazard identification and risk management.

  • Act as Technical Authority for Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), developing and updating guidelines and tools.
  • Facilitate and oversee critical safety studies (HAZIDs, HAZOPs, Fire Safety Studies, Hazardous Areas Assessments), ensuring recommendations are prioritised and actioned.
  • Support our sites and leadership teams by turning process safety events and hazards into practical organisational learnings, drafting bulletins, alerts, and fit-for-purpose standards.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of relevant regulations, codes and industry best practice, ensuring alignment with our Health, Safety and Environment Roadmap.
  • Lead procurement tenders and partner with 3rd party consultancies on process safety studies, audits, and improvement projects.
Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Engineering degree with a sound understanding of principles across multiple disciplines.
  • Formal training in HAZOP facilitation (recognised provider).
  • Experience facilitating and scribing HAZOPs/HAZIDs across a variety of technologies and contexts.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety management practices, regulatory frameworks, and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement PSM practices, draft company standards, and prepare communications/training for diverse audiences.
  • Experience with Management of Change processes, incident investigations, and process safety metrics.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Eligible (or working towards) engineering chartership or accreditation in Australia.
