Legal Associate Job Description

The Honourable Justice Harris is seeking a legally qualified individual to serve as her Associate commencing in 2025.

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience working in the Common Law Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria, supporting the judge's administrative tasks and contributing to the delivery of judgments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the production of judgments, including proofreading and editing
  • Provide clerking services in court
  • Review files and orders for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain court records and prepare material for use by the judge
  • Conduct research and prepare memoranda
  • Travel on circuit when required
  • Communicate effectively with court staff, the public, and other stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling confident and accurate communication
  • Exceptional proofreading and writing skills, with proficiency in grammar and punctuation
  • Academic record showing strong legal knowledge and understanding
  • Qualification in Law, with 1-2 years post-admission experience highly desirable
