Job Description

The Director Networks and Pipelines Policy role is a strategic leadership position within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The successful candidate will be responsible for stewarding NSW's electricity network and gas and fuel pipeline infrastructure policy frameworks.

This role involves leading the reform of NSW's economic, competition, safety, and technical policy frameworks for electricity networks and gas and fuel pipelines. The Director will provide expert advice to inform NSW positions on national energy reforms and deliver government interventions to support priority infrastructure projects.

The Director will oversee high-performing teams managing legislation, regulation, and implementation of network and pipeline policy. They will represent NSW in national forums and coordinate policy direction with key delivery partners.

This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader with deep experience in the energy sector. Ideally, the successful candidate will have a background within electricity or gas supply infrastructure development, strategy, or regulatory affairs.

The Director will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of safe, secure, and reliable electricity and gas supply through the energy transition. They will drive reforms in transmission planning, contestability, licensing, and access arrangements.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the stewardship and reform of NSW's economic, competition, safety, and technical policy frameworks for electricity networks and gas and fuel pipelines.
  • Provide expert advice to inform NSW positions on national energy reforms.
  • Deliver government interventions to support priority infrastructure projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A strong background in the energy sector, ideally with experience in electricity or gas supply infrastructure development, strategy, or regulatory affairs.
  • Proven ability to manage large teams and complex portfolios.
  • Direct experience in network or pipeline development, energy policy, or project delivery.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience and training.
