Job Description

This role supports the Government Relations and Industry Affairs function to deliver on its strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring political, legislative, and policy issues, researching and drafting relevant collateral, and engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

The day-to-day tasks of this role may include:

  1. Supporting the GR&IA function in delivering key aspects of the policy development process;
  2. Monitoring political, legislative, and policy issues and developments, identifying and reporting on impacts and reputational issues for QBE and its business;
  3. Providing research, analysis, and advice on potential policy matters, government or regulatory reforms, or reputational issues affecting the business;
  4. Supporting the policy development process, including through research and analysis, and the preparation of evidence-based collateral such as summaries of key issues, submissions, briefs, background materials, key messages, and policy position papers;
  5. Engaging effectively with key internal and external stakeholders to coordinate feedback and support policy development on issues affecting the business;
  6. Developing and preparing relevant registers and internal reports and communications for distribution to executives and the business;
  7. Working closely with key stakeholders across the business (e.g. regulatory, compliance, risk, legal) to ensure alignment of initiatives and provide advice and support as required;
  8. Maintaining an active network of counterparts across the industry and engaging with external stakeholders as needed (e.g. government departments and industry association) to support effective engagement and advocacy;
  9. Supporting risk management processes through identification and maintenance of risks and controls applicable to GR&IA.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience within a policy, regulatory, or government relations role;
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. law, economics, or political science, or other relevant degree);
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Superior research and analysis skills and capacity to comprehend complex issues, think strategically, and adapt to changing circumstances;
  • Meticulous attention to detail and superior organisational skills;
  • Ability to influence and persuade constructively;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent stakeholder management skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a small team with minimal supervision;
  • Experience in developing and implementing policy strategies that meet the business objectives;
  • Experience and track record in research, analysis, and advice on government policy matters and policy analysis and development (including developing and preparing evidenced-based collateral such as briefings and submissions).
