About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Psychologist or Registered Psychologist to join our team as a Senior Mental Health Adviser. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of clinical evidence and its application in supporting veterans and their families to access healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Lead a team of Mental Health Advisers, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
    • Establish a positive team culture, monitor individual workloads, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement
    • Oversee team compliance with Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) and Health Branch policy and procedures.
    • Drive quality improvement initiatives, including education, training, and mentoring programs.
  • Advice and Escalation
    • Provide advice and escalation support for complex, urgent, or sensitive requests for funding of health services.
    • Respond to queries from business areas regarding incomplete or unclear medical evidence.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work collaboratively with the Chief Health Officer Division, health business areas, and other DVA business areas to improve the quality and timeliness of clinical advice.
    • Liaise with external providers to resolve complex or systemic issues.
Requirements
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or unrestricted registration as a psychologist with AHPRA with additional relevant experience and training.
  • Significant (at least 5 years) clinical experience across health areas of specific interest to DVA.
  • Recent independent clinical practice in a relevant field.
Eligibility
  • Australian citizenship is required for this role.
  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a pre-engagement screening check and obtain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance.
