Head of School Job Description

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced educator to lead our new campus as the Head of School.

As part of the school leadership team, you will have the chance to put your mark on this campus from day one and shape its educational programs in line with our philosophy.

The Head of School role is responsible for overseeing teaching and learning programs, operational management, and ensuring student wellbeing.

We cater for students in Years 9-12, are accredited for RoSA and HSC, and invite educational leaders from both primary and secondary settings to apply.

You will report to the Executive Principal – NSW and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of teaching and learning, student wellbeing, and day-to-day operations of the site.

We create supportive and inclusive learning environments for students who may not have found success in mainstream settings through individualised learning plans, small class sizes, and a strong focus on relationships.

At our school, we draw on Adult Education principles where choice, independence, mutual respect, and accountability shape our culture and expectations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Action the approved Development Plan and our school model.
  • Implement policies and procedures. Provide recommendations for change to State Principal and/or Executive Principal for Quality and Compliance approval.
  • Draft production of Annual School Report.
  • Manage staff, including recruitment, annual performance reviews, and disciplinary action, as needed.

Key Workplace Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance against our standard operating procedures, including policy development and implementation.
  • Manage the day-to-day running of the allocated location(s), including student and staff support and management.
  • Manage a functional unit with complex objectives and significant resources, including operational responsibilities of defined teams.
  • Assist with efficiency analysis, applying solution-focused approach to managing inefficiencies and considering quality and compliance aspects.
  • Assist with planning, proposals, and implementations of school improvements, demonstrating proficiency within existing rules, regulations, procedures, and systems.
  • Liaise with the state regulatory body, ensuring ongoing compliance with school registration and auditing requirements.
  • Collect, review, and report school data, adhering to internal and external timelines and requirements.
  • Manage expenditure within approved budgets, including complex projects over $300k.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of relevant and related programs.
  • Teach subjects, as per employment contract or as required.

Requirements:

  • Have a deep understanding of effective teaching, learning, and classroom management practices.
  • Demonstrate experience as an exemplary teacher.
  • Show capacity for educational leadership within a school setting.
  • Be able to lead a team and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrate high-level decision-making skills with minimal consultation to upper Management.
  • Provide high-level solutions to problems and follow through with improved outcomes.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Teaching.
  • Hold a current accreditation.
  • National Police Check, issued within the last 3 months and annually thereafter.
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence.
  • Current and valid Working with Children Check NSW.

Remuneration:

  • $160,135 per annum (plus superannuation) based on skills and experience.
