Job Description


We are seeking a highly skilled Family Support Practitioner to join our team, providing intensive short-term services to families across six Local Government Areas within the Loddon catchment. As a key member of our PASDS (Parenting Assessment & Skill Development Service) team, you will work closely with families to conduct comprehensive assessments, identify strengths, and develop skills to safely care for their children.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Conduct home or day-stay assessments to observe parenting capacity and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to enhance parents' skills, knowledge, and capacity to ensure child safety and wellbeing.
  • Maintain effective communication with key stakeholders, including Child Protection, Children's Court, and family members.
  • Prioritize client needs, working under challenging circumstances, and maintain best practice while navigating complex situations.
  • Demonstrate genuine partnership with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families and communities, promoting cultural connection and strengthening outcomes.


Required Skills and Qualifications:


To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • Resilience to work with and support clients who have been exposed to trauma.
  • Understanding of child protection, placement, and support service systems, including legislative and policy frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting assessments of infants and their caregivers, focusing on increasing safety.
  • Knowledge of relevant theoretical approaches to practice with vulnerable high-risk infants, including theories of child attachment, development, and abuse.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate client needs to key stakeholders.
  • The ability to maintain best practice while working under challenging circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in genuine partnership with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
