Position Overview
CAWLS is seeking a Full-Time Civil Lawyer to provide expert legal counsel and representation. Reporting to the Senior Management Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering legal advice and referrals in critical areas such as family law, domestic violence, and child protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering high-quality legal advice and representation within the organization's areas of expertise.
- Contributing to the development and enhancement of legal practice systems.
- Providing holistic support services to clients.
- Representing clients in court and offering duty lawyer services.
- Conducting outreach initiatives to extend legal advice and representation.
- Planning and executing community legal education programs and resources.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will hold a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory and possess a minimum of two years' experience in an Australian legal practice. The following qualifications will be advantageous:
- Experience working with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Expertise in general civil law matters, particularly in domestic and family violence.
- Previous experience in a Community Legal Centre.
- Familiarity with CLASS (database).
Skills and Attributes
The successful applicant will demonstrate strong teamwork capabilities, effective time management, and a commitment to social justice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts. A personal commitment to self-care and resilience is also important in this role.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary range of approximately $76,000 - $88,000 plus superannuation, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including:
