About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at Qantas. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality legal advice and guidance on consumer law matters across the Qantas Group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice on consumer law matters, including regulatory interactions and commercial negotiations.
  • Assist in the management of consumer law-related matters, including risk assessment and strategic direction.
  • Build strong relationships with internal clients to understand their business needs and operational context.
  • Develop and deliver effective compliance training programs across the Group.
  • Support and develop the Legal team, providing guidance and expertise as needed.
Requirements
  • Current Practising Certificate in New South Wales (or other Australian jurisdiction).
  • Minimum of 12+ years PQE, with a focus on consumer law and a mix of Tier 1 law firm and large corporate in-house experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in providing consumer law advice, managing legal services in a fast-paced environment, and familiarity with regulatory regimes.
  • Ability to provide legal advice unsupervised, but also to coordinate with in-house and external resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in close working relationships with management to achieve business objectives.
  • Proven experience in obtaining, understanding, and interpreting legal opinions/advice.
  • Ability to understand team culture and operate in a fast-paced, collegiate environment, juggling competing demands.
