Black Star Pastry is a thriving business with a strong presence in the Sydney market. Our purpose-built production kitchen in Alexandria is the hub of our operations, and we're seeking a highly skilled Production Kitchen Manager to take our production to the next level.

The Role

We're looking for a dynamic leader with a proven track record in large-volume food production. As our Production Kitchen Manager, you'll oversee our production operations, focusing on efficiency and scalability. Your key responsibilities will include:

Production Quality, Efficiency, and Cost Management
  • Ensuring high-quality and cost-effective production of agreed menu items through qualitative and data-driven analysis.
  • Analysing existing operational processes to increase efficiency and scalability, and identifying and implementing cost-saving and efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Implementing continuous improvement mechanisms to ensure cyclical review of our processes and procedures.
Supply Chain & Inventory Management
  • Collaborating with our Executive Sous Chef to manage vendors and ensure consistent and reliable sourcing of ingredients, tools, and equipment.
  • Optimising our supply chain to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and forecast needs.
  • Utilising systems to generate evidence driving better ordering and minimising waste.
Production Supervision
  • Leading, motivating, and collaborating with our leadership team to ensure operations, facilities, and staff members comply with policies, procedures, regulations, and food safety standards.
  • Overseeing kitchen operations to execute production of our menu to meet weekly order targets.
  • Using leadership to retain and develop team members to enhance the overall capabilities of our workforce.
About You

We're looking for someone with a strong background in food production, supply chain management, and team leadership. You'll be a dynamic leader with a proven track record in a fast-paced, high-volume food production landscape. Problem-solving is your 'jam', and adapting to different environments to help you achieve in your role doesn't frighten you.

The following qualities further describe the ideal candidate:

  • 3-5+ years in a kitchen, ideally as a Sous Chef level or above, with proven success in large-volume production kitchen environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a focus on quality control that does not compromise efficiencies.
  • Pride in our brand and workplace, and in the understanding that your role has an impact on the success of our business.
  • Interest in maintaining a good level of understanding of the restaurant and hospitality industry and trends.
  • Curiosity to build, maintain, and contribute toward healthy teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
  • Generally quite flexible and agile, able to adapt to the changing needs of our business.
  • Effective communication skills described as clear, professional, authentic, and concise.
