Leaf Cutter Role

A dynamic opportunity has emerged for a skilled professional to assume the role of Leaf Cutter within our Food Operations team.

The Leaf Cutting department is responsible for collecting leaf and browse for koalas and other species. Our Leaf Cutters ensure that all leaf cutting and browse collection take place safely and ethically. They must be multi-skilled and may hold certificates or specialized backgrounds.

To succeed in this role, you will possess the ability to work in a high-performance environment, delivering all requirements with a strong work ethic and excellent teamwork skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Collecting leaf as required
  • Mowing and whipper-snipper operation
  • Operating and maintaining machinery associated with browse collection
  • Recording observations and reports on stock levels and maintenance logs
  • Conducting environment and enclosure safety checks where necessary
  • Being competent in all aspects of Zoo emergency responses (fire, animal escape, etc.)
  • Performing cleaning procedures for assigned enclosures/areas
  • Cleaning, feeding, and maintaining insects and associated rooms as needed
  • Maintaining Keeper office/fruit room and other buildings and surrounding grounds (routine gutter cleans)
  • Maintaining relevant vehicles and trailers
  • Providing high-standard customer service
Essential Criteria:
  • Hold a current Driver's Licence (manual)
  • Be available to work weekends, public holidays, and school holiday periods
  • Have previous experience in grounds/maintenance
  • Experience operating machinery (4WDs, vehicles)
