Job Opportunity:

The Victorian Government is seeking an experienced Fish Ecologist to contribute to the delivery of quality research in river and wetland ecology and conservation.

This role requires a high level of competency in freshwater and estuarine fish identification and survey techniques, as well as experience in contributing to fish and fish-habitat monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

The successful candidate will be involved in field work, four-wheel driving, hiking, conducting fish surveys, data management, and report writing. They will also have knowledge of riverine, estuarine, and wetland ecosystems, their biota, and their conservation management.

Responsibilities include participating in, supporting, planning, and managing conservation and ecology surveys and projects in the field and office, as well as contributing to multi-disciplinary research teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in entry, quality control, and basic statistical analysis of data from field surveys, including use of GIS.

Key Requirements:

  • Science degree
  • Work experience with a focus on fish ecology
  • High level of competency in freshwater and estuarine fish identification and survey techniques
  • Experience in contributing to fish and fish-habitat monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
  • Knowledge of riverine, estuarine, and wetland ecosystems, their biota, and their conservation management
