Debt Management Specialist

The primary purpose of this role is to oversee the efficient use and management of debt, cash, and equity in accordance with organisational objectives. This involves assessing, monitoring, managing, and planning the use of debt, cash, and equity.

This includes communicating debt positions and covenant headroom to stakeholders, maintaining treasury models, managing relationships with banking institutions, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.

Additional responsibilities include hedging obligations, managing refinancing processes, calculating accruals and prepayments of treasury interest, and managing foreign exchange.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Debt Management:
    • Communicate Board-level debt position and covenant headroom.
    • Maintain treasury model, including monthly updates that calculate debt covenants and provide projections.
    • Manage relationships with banking institutions, including long-term strategic planning.
    • Organise regular banking updates, prepare materials on operational and financial performance, strategy, and outlook.
    • Responsible for foreign exchange management.
    • Paying debt interest, commitment fees, guarantee fees, swap interest, and agent fees.
    • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements to banks.
    • Calculate accruals and prepayments of treasury interest on a monthly basis.
    • Manage refinancing processes, including planning, project management, modelling, and tracking key issues.
    • Hedging obligations, including swap counterparties relationships, payment of fees, reporting obligations, and valuations for accounting purposes.
  • Equity:
    • Payment and receipt of funds with share buy-backs and issuances.
    • Dividend calculation, communication with Board and banks, compliance with SFA dividend requirements, and dividend payments.
    • Production and distribution of dividend statements.
    • Share Plan Registers, including loan balance management, amortisation calculations, cash top-up analysis, and loan valuations.
    • Ongoing share valuations, including calculation and reporting to the Board.
  • Cash Management:
    • Efficient use of available funds.
    • Understand, manage, and supervise all aspects of cash flow, including forecasting daily cash requirements and executing daily financing decisions.
    • Evaluate, develop, and implement cash management systems to optimise efficiencies.
    • Recommend, implement, and maintain process improvements in cash management.
    • Manage fund flows for acquisitions.
    • Report to Management group on cash flow forecast on a weekly basis.
    • Report to Board and banks on historical cash flows, including working capital movements and capex.
  • Planning and Budget Processes:
    • Oversee annual Treasury budget process, including budget template adaptation and maintenance, budget reviews, consolidation, and reporting to various stakeholders.
    • Produce cash flow, balance sheet, and covenants in the annual budget process.
    • Perform business case review for monitoring business case capex and EBITDA post approval.
  • Support Strategic Plans and Initiatives:
    • Major group capital raising and asset divestments.
    • Development and implementation of treasury and cash management software tools.
    • Planning and project management.
    • Historical and projected analysis and evaluation, including financial modelling.
    • Reporting to executive management, Board, banks, and third-party stakeholders.
    • Process improvement and change management.
