Job Summary:

Racing and Wagering Western Australia is at the forefront of the racing world, fostering connections between communities across the state. We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team in North Dandalup as a Casual Stablehand.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Perform daily tasks for horse care including grooming, feeding and exercising both in hand and ridden.
  • Maintain high standards of horse care and training records.
  • Ensure the overall wellbeing of horses is optimal, identifying any injuries or medical concerns and escalating them as directed by your manager.
  • Assist with horse identification and documentation of intake and out-take procedures for horses in the Retraining and Rehoming program.
  • Support all aspects of Off the track estate programs as required.

**Requirements and Qualifications:**

  • Minimum two years experience working with horses in a similar role (preference with thoroughbred or standardbred horses).
  • Demonstrated riding ability, preferably with thoroughbred or standardbred horses.
  • Experience in assessing a horse's level of handling and temperament.
  • Knowledge of general horse care and husbandry.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, manage time autonomously and demonstrate proactive behaviour.
  • Self-motivation and initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Will to work outside of normal business days/hours, including at short notice if required.
  • Current 'C' class driver's license.
  • Be physically fit and able to cope with the physical demands of the role.
  • Attention to detail and a high standard of care.
  • Proficiency with farm machinery and understanding of maintenance standards required for a horse property - preferred.
  • An understanding of WA thoroughbred or harness racing industry - beneficial.
