Senior Counselor

Criminal Lawyer/Advice Lawyer

We are seeking experienced lawyers to join our team as Criminal Lawyers/Advice Lawyers. In this role, you will have the opportunity to expand your experience by undertaking varied casework in criminal law and related matters.

• This is a temporary position with multiple full-time or part-time roles available.

Key Responsibilities

• You will represent clients in criminal law matters, preparing cases and instructing counsel in all jurisdictions.
• You will provide duty lawyer services in the Magistrates and Children's courts, including for clients in custody.
• You will deliver outcomes through self-management and supervision from senior legal practitioners as required.
• You will support Legal Aid Queensland's contributions to policy, procedure, law reform, and legal service delivery initiatives.
• You will contribute to team planning and suggest improvements to work practices.

Qualifications and Experience

• Admission to practice as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland.
• Experience in criminal law and related matters.
• A strong understanding of the legal aid system and its operation.
• A high level of communication and interpersonal skills.
