About the Role

As a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, we are seeking a talented System Software Engineer to join our team. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in innovative enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT.

This is an exciting opportunity for a software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux systems, software architectures, and Go programming language. You will have the chance to work with a distributed team, leveraging your experience and passion in Go to make Ubuntu the best platform to develop, distribute, and consume software built with Go.

Part of the Ubuntu Foundations team, you will work on critical toolchains involved in the making of Ubuntu but also pillars of the modern software ecosystem. You will collaborate proactively with a distributed team, select, integrate, and package best-of-breed tooling with Ubuntu to improve developer and operator experience with Go.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Write high-quality code to create new features
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions
Required Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has relevant Go experience, ideally in the world of cloud-native software and Linux. Experience in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu is also required. Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university is essential. We value soft skills and are passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated individuals who love technology and working with brilliant people.
