Senior Editor Role Overview

The Senior Editor position is responsible for contributing to the development of high-level defence doctrine publications and strategic documents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide structural editing, substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading of Defence publications to ensure clarity, accessibility, and consistency across these publications.
  • Collaborate with editors, doctrine authors, publication developers, and multimedia specialists to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with Defence writing conventions, WCAG accessibility standards, and formatting requirements to meet organisational needs.
  • Develop diagrams and graphics in collaboration with multimedia specialists to enhance visual content.
  • Liaise with Defence print and distribution teams for delivery of high-volume print runs to meet business objectives.
  • Maintain an auditable trail of editorial changes in line with organisational policies.
  • Provide advice and training related to doctrine development to support staff growth and capability.
  • Support the Australian Defence Glossary through terminology development and certification to ensure accurate representation.
  • Attend domestic and international doctrine events as required to stay informed and up-to-date on industry developments.
