About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ombudsman to join our Banking and Finance decision-making team at AFCA. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in resolving complaints and disputes in the financial services sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Make decisions on standard and complex complaints in accordance with AFCA rules and fairness principles
  • Provide professional and technical leadership across AFCA, including coaching and mentoring Adjudicators, caseworkers, and others
  • Support AFCA's relationships with consumer groups, government bodies, regulators, AFCA members, and other stakeholders
  • Develop AFCA approaches and present at external conferences as a subject matter expert
Requirements
  • Legal qualifications and a significant track record of achievement at senior executive level within the B&F industry or a tribunal, EDR scheme, regulatory agency, or related business entity
  • Sound knowledge of financial services law, practice, and other regulations, including credit and lending law
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to quickly get to the heart of complex issues and efficiently handle a busy caseload
  • Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with a wide cross-section of the insurance sector and the broader community
  • Resilience, focus, determination, and excellent engagement skills, with the ability to effectively manage challenges, external criticism, and public scrutiny
