Our Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to lead multiple complex inter-disciplinary projects within our highways and roads team. This role will provide technical leadership, drive high-quality design decisions, and promote collaboration and innovation across the delivery team.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the transportation infrastructure market and possess:

  • A relevant engineering degree with Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation;
  • Confident leadership of multidisciplinary design teams for highways and road projects in a design and engineering consultancy environment;
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex road infrastructure projects;
  • Well-developed technical and commercial skills, with a sound knowledge of the industry and ability to secure opportunities;
  • Excellent communication skills and strong stakeholder management experience, with the ability to build credible relationships internally and externally.

Your Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leads multi-disciplinary projects, providing technical leadership to inspire direction and delivery;
  • Drives optimal and high-quality design decisions through promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and creativity;
  • Uses interpersonal and influencing skills to support successful negotiation outcomes;
  • Manages day-to-day client technical liaison at project level and representation of client priorities;
  • Monitors, reviews, and advises on content and quality of designs to ensure project meets customer requirements and expectations;
  • Ensures safety has been addressed throughout all phases;
  • Identifies, monitors, and communicates design risks and issues;
  • Responsible for delivery of design following agreed program;
  • Develops and implements Design Management Plans;
  • Responsible for identifying and managing project resource requirements;
  • Chairs design coordination meetings;
  • Manages design scope, change, and implementation of Variations;
  • Identifies and implements legal aspects associated with execution of works.

About You

You should be a seasoned design manager with extensive experience in the transportation infrastructure market, possessing a relevant engineering degree and Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation. Your strong technical and commercial skills, combined with excellent communication skills and stakeholder management experience, will enable you to excel in this role.

What We Offer

As a highly skilled Senior Design Manager, your estimated salary will be around £80,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
