The Oceanographic Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the operations of the CLS Group (Collecte Localisation Satellites) by providing technical expertise in the installation, maintenance, and repair of oceanographic instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities- Inventory Management: Ensure that workshop supplies and tools are properly inventoried and ordered in a timely manner.
- Instrument Testing: Conduct thorough testing of scientific instruments in the workshop and in the field to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Order Management: Prepare and place orders for project consumables and instrumentation, and verify the safe receipt of items.
- Documentation: Assist in the preparation of project documentation and packing of shipments for freighting to work sites.
- Field Operations: Travel to remote work sites to configure instruments and rig up oceanographic moorings, and deploy and recover moorings from vessels.
- Liaison: Liaise with client representatives and vessel crew on work sites to ensure smooth operations.
- Quality Assurance: Document all work to ensure compliance with the company's quality objectives.
- Health and Safety: Maintain a safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
- Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest technical knowledge by participating in training opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience in a science or engineering discipline, with a technical understanding of instrumentation.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with a range of oceanographic instrumentation, and proficiency with Microsoft software.
- Personal Attributes: Independent, goal-oriented self-starter with a focus on detail, passion for the marine environment, and ability to understand and adapt to various technical requirements.
The work will be performed primarily in an office and warehouse environment, with occasional travel to remote work sites and field work from vessels and platforms. The Oceanographic Technician will be required to work outside of normal hours to satisfy job requirements and support customers in various time zones.
Physical DemandsThe field work may occasionally be physically demanding, and the candidate must maintain a valid Offshore Medical Certificate and undergo Offshore Survival Training.
