Under the direction of the Operations Manager in South Africa (CLS Southern Africa) and the CEO Director (CLS Oceania), the duties and responsibilities of the Oceanographic Technician are:
- Keeping workshop supplies and tools ready by inventorying stock; placing and verifying receipt of orders.
- Testing of scientific instruments in the workshop and field.
- Preparing and placing orders of project consumables and instrumentation.
- Monitoring orders and verifying safe receipt of items.
- Assistance with the preparation of project documentation and packing of shipments for freighting to the work site.
- Travel to remote work sites for the configuration of instruments and rigging up of oceanographic moorings.
- Deployment and recovery of moorings from vessels and documenting these operations.
- Liaison with client representatives and vessel crew on work sites.
- Documentation of all work so as to comply with the company’s quality objectives.
- Maintaining a safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations of the company and its client’s work sites
- Updating job knowledge by participating in training opportunities; including the reading of technical publications and training manuals.
**Profil recherché**:
**Educational and Experience**
Combination of education and experience: At least a 3-year degree or diploma in a science or engineering discipline and a technical understanding of instrumentation. A working understanding of a range of oceanographic instrumentation would be an advantage.
**Working Environment**
The work is performed primarily in an office and warehouse environment and involves use of computers and other office equipment. Normal working hours (8 hours/week) are scheduled during the office hours of 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday.
In addition, this position will require travel to remote work sites and field work from vessels and platforms. The Oceanographic Technician will be called upon to work outside of established hours in order to satisfy particular job requirements, for travel, and to support customers in a range of time zones.

- Familiar with a variety of oceanographic and meteorological instrumentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft software (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).

**Travel**
The job will require local, national, possibly international travel and occasionally involving weekends. Out of town travel is estimated up to 10% of the Incumbent's workdays annually.
