About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Network Development Engineer to join our team at Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a key member of our Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and operating our global DWDM networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, operate, and rollout our global DWDM networks
  • Drive scaling current DWDM designs to meet customer demand
  • Create processes to operate and build our DWDM network
  • Work closely with other Networking departments on new designs
  • Ensure the DWDM network adheres to defined network standards
  • Review and implement changes on the DWDM network
  • Drive operational excellence projects to improve DWDM network quality and reliability
  • Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years' experience with the rollout of large DWDM networks and Optical network technologies
  • 3+ years' experience with optical planning and modelling tools
  • 1+ year of professional development experience with Python or similar tool for network automation scripting
  • Lead improvements in existing processes and identify opportunities to enhance or develop new processes
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience planning and deploying high capacity DWDM and Optical network systems
  • Good in working on a Linux/Unix environment experience
  • Strong automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
  • Experience in working in a highly available network and highly operationally aware
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon's leadership principles requirements for this role
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon's functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
