Role Overview

We are seeking a Graduate Lawyer to join our Legal Team at the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent law graduate to gain hands-on experience in providing legal services for the Council.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced lawyers, supporting them in delivering practical and efficient legal advice across all departments. You will have the opportunity to assist with various legal matters, including instructing external legal service providers and supporting the Council in proceedings before Courts and Tribunals.

This is a full-time position commencing immediately. The duties include but not limited to:

  • Support the provision of legal advice and services across the Council on areas of law, including property, commercial, planning, environment and civil matters.
  • Assist the legal team in managing the Council's litigation across courts and tribunals.
  • Maintain accurate records and update the Council's legal systems.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, external legal providers and consultants.
  • Conduct legal research, prepare case notes and draft advice, briefs and court documents.
  • Ensure legal compliance with Council processes, procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Support negotiations with external stakeholders and/or the public as required.
  • Promote and comply with WHS policies, documenting and reporting issues promptly.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Paralegal as needed.

To be eligible for this role, you must hold a Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and a current Practicing Certificate. You should also possess strong critical thinking, problem-solving and ethical reasoning skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and integrity and professionalism in everything you do.
